Liz Shively and her Golden Retriever, Faith, attended the 2011 GRCA National Specialty show in Conyers, Georgia (just east of Atlanta). Having trained together only a few times, Liz (who has not competed in agility for at least 11 years) had the modest goals of:
1) remembering the courses
2) getting Faith to follow her on the courses
Both Liz and Faith did their parts and met these goals, so Liz counts it as a successful show.
And they even qualified once in Novice FAST.
Kathy Poppe and Giant Schnauzers, Gus and Emmi attented the Giant Schnauzer Nationals. This was Gus's first agility trial and qualified in novice standard with 20 seconds to spare. Emmi also had a good trial and earned her first points in T2B.

Dog agility is one of the fastest growing dog sports of the last century. USDAA's tournament events present the best of the best in agility, jumping and team competition.

Here is their account of their experiences. Enjoy!
Rona Halbreich's BC, Kody, handled by Blake Stafford and Cocker Spaniel, Maggie.
Kody and Blake placed 5th in PGP Finals... It was an awesome run and my 10 year old boy still is out there competing well with the best of them (young and older)...
Team Perfect 10 (Kody/Blake & Dodge/Elizabeth Blanchard) also took 2nd place in Performance Relay and my boy got to stand on the podium and all.... Kody took 5th in Versatility Team Jumpers and missed Performance Speed Jumping finals by 2 places (they only took 10 dogs in to the finals). He did place in several other runs ; however, these were the most memorable to me. As a rescue from the swamps of La. to the super boy he is today.. I was truly blessed when he was rescued and came in to my life. Someone told me at Cynosport that he - Kody - was truly an "honest" boy--- and that he is....
Maggie and I had fun running in Veterans. After Gamblers she was 3rd out of 12 dogs in her height. Unfortunately, time was not on our side in her std. run and we dropped to 5th place. Snooker was fun and she had a nice jumpers run but no Q... Anyway, all in all we had fun and my 12 year old girl continues to amaze me...

Catherine Laria with BC, Chase and BC, Paint
The USDAA Cynosports was great this year. I went with Chase and Paint and ran in all three events (Grand Prix, Steeplechase, and Team). This year Chase was in both Grand Prix and Steeplechase Semi finals. He ran clean but missed both cut-offs by less than a second and less than 2 seconds, respectively. And he had a stellar gamblers run for us. I was very proud of him.
Paint and I decided to try out for the World Team this year. It started in April for us and we started off strong leavng our first event with 74 points! But I was very naive in the level of competition out there and realized coming in top three at this stage of our training was next to impossible. So we were shooting for top 12. We had two terrible regionals so it was all down to the Nationals. We had so much fun on all the challenging IHC courses and running in the same group as all these top handler and dog teams. We didn't reach our goal, ended up 30 something out of 84 26-inch dogs... but I'm very happy with the journey.
It's all recapped on this video...check it out!
