Dog agility is a sport in which a dog moves through an obstacle course consisting of but not limited to: Jumps, Tunnels, Dog Walk, A-frame, and Weave Poles. The dog must negotiate the course within a standard course time, with the guidance of his or her handler. Dogs run off leash, so the handler's only controls are voice and body language, requiring exceptional obedience training of the animal. In competition, both accuracy and speed are important.
The sport of agility welcomes all ages of people and all ages of dogs, including pure breeds or mixed breeds. Whether you decide to compete or not, dogs can gain more confidence and create a stronger bond with its owner.
Agility can be addictive! Some train for fun and others train to compete under the rules of United States Dog Agility Association (USDAA), American Kennel Club (AKC), and North American Dog Agility Council (NADAC) styles of agility.
