Tyler started his performance career in obedience by earning his Novice, Open, and UD titles in one year before the age of three. At an obedience trial in Corpus Chrisi in 2003 he earned a High Combined score in Open B and Utility B classes. At the Collie Club of America National Specialty on March 25, 2005 in Oklahoma City, OK, Tyler was the HIGHEST SCORING DOG IN TRIAL with a Score of 196 from the Open B Class. He was invited to the AKC National Obedience Invitational three times, one time concurrently qualifying for the AKC Agility Nationals.
Tyler was introduced to flyball and agility training initially as a break from obedience. He loved these sports, especially flyball, and competed for over seven years. A super athlete, he earned several titles in both including the Onyx, flyball's "MACH" equivalent. He was close to earning flyball "Grand Champion" when his spinal problem cut short his flyball as well as agility careers.
Tyler touched so many with his outgoing happy personality. He was a Delta Pet Partner with Nancy for nine years, visiting special needs children and working with the rehab patients in Animal Assisted Therapy at Warm Springs. Tyler and Jazz were the first collies to earn AWCA's Therapy Dog I (THR I) title for which they earned an Award of Merit. Tyler went on to earn the THR II and Social Dog II titles based on the numerous hours he served. Tyler earned AWCA's Versatility Champion title (VCH) at the age of 5 based on the wide diversity of activities in which he participated and excelled.
He was Vince's joy in life from the moment he arrived as a pup, the two of them running agility courses like poetry in motion and both crazy about flyball. His beautiful collie face, full of expression and intelligence with a touch of humor was still full of life at 12 1/2 years old making the decision so very very difficult.
Our beautiful boy will always have a special place in our hearts. Tyler is hopefully once again running with his flyball buddies in heaven (Norton, Chase, Maverick and Paddywack) and nudging pockets of the angels for treats.
Loved and missed by Nancy and Vince Dragotta
